This week seems to be a week of secrets for me (more forthcoming). I think I can blame that on paleo fx. One of my efforts over the last several years has been restraining myself from sharing my personal life on the blog. It seemed unprofessional. I tried to stick to hormones, and hormones alone. Maybe I’ll move back into that mode in the upcoming weeks. But for now we can just sit back and enjoy it.
Or something. “Tolerate” might be a better word.

So today brings another personal revelation: I don’t cook. I mean, I do. I love to. Cooking is a delightful endeavor and I encourage everyone on the planet to at least learn how to do it. But I just don’t make the time in my own life. There’s no way. My best meals are vegetables thrown in the microwave. Or, if I’m really going out on a limb, I’ll cook ’em on the stove. Every once in a while, however, someone inspires me to make the time.
When I say “someone,” however, what I mean is “Melissa Joulwan.”
Mel is one hell of a woman. That shouldn’t be reason to read her cookbook necessarily, but it is. She’s strong and sassy and obsessed with quality. Not only is her personality one of the best around, but her work in recipes and cookbooks is nearly unparalleled.
Seriously. I’m not the only one with this opinion. Dallas and Melissa of Whole9 think so, too. They wrote the foreword to the book.
So when I received an e-copy of Melissa’s best-selling cookbook Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat, I nearly leapt out of my skin. I knew it meant I’d lose more productive time spent in the kitchen this weekend, but who cares? Food is a priority, right? That’s what my friends keep telling me, anyway.
So I dug into the cookbook. It’s one of the most delightfully assembled books I’ve come across on the web. And it’s a thorough cookbook that covers the how tos of everything. It’s simple, it’s tasty. It has a whole chapter on fruit, which pleases me to no end. But the bulk of the book is of course in meats, and delectably so.
It’s got:
-17 sauces
-28 protein dishes
-26 veggie and salad meals
-instructional chapters, resources, fruits, and more.
Instead of telling you about all the recipes and how delectable they are, perhaps I should just show you.

Melissa’s Well Fed (and now Well Fed 2!) is available on Amazon.

Thank you SO MUCH for these lovely words. Truly.
It was such a treat to meet you at PaleoFX. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Austin. I love that my most vivid mental picture of you is you joyously dancing with your hair streaming around you. Brilliant.
Oh goodness I only wish we had more time!!
When you say that you are not cooking do you mean it literally? What with meat/eggs?
Good question! I do my meat products on the stove about 1 or 1.5 pounds at a time every other day or so. 🙂
🙂 i also found that the fastest solutions are the best- I like to throw some meat, various veggies, potatoes to my oven and just eat them for few days with some fat.If I want some variety I just grab some eggs or goat cheese.
avocado/coconut and fruits also don’t need preparation and are so tasty 🙂
Life is much easier with this.
Btw. I wanted to thank you so much Stefani- I am reading everyday your posts- especially those about self-esteem and it helps me a lot. I am so grateful for all things you do to us- woman 🙂
Sorry for my not-so-great English, I am
from Poland 🙂
